| Orchardside Yarn Shop is located in the Shenandoah Valley, near Raphine, Virginia. It has been in operation for the past 35 years. It was originally started by Ruth Smyer at the Orchardside Court and Restaurant in Fairfield, Virginia in 1964. In 1975, Ruth moved the shop to Staunton, Virginia where it remained until she retired. It was then in 1988, that the shop was taken over by Ruth's daughter, Carole. Carole has been operating the shop ever since. Carole moved the shop from Staunton to Lexington, Virginia on Washington Street. It has since been relocated on Hays Creek Farm, which is near Raphine, Virginia. Carole lives in a white house that is located right behind the shop. It's the perfect site for a relaxing hobby. During the warm months, you can sit, knit and listen to Hays Creek as it meanders down to join the Maury River. While during the cold months, stay warm in the shop, drink hot coffee, and Knit, Knit, Knit! |
